at the exhibition hall “Arsenāls”, Rīga

I went to exhibition hall called ''Arsenāls" in Rīga. There was an exhibit "Plakāti un domas'' ("Posters and thoughts'') by latvian artist Māris Subačs.
I wanted to see his posters' exhibition because i really like his art style. In the first moment his drawings seem childish, but later you can see the depth of the simple, black lines. The little fellows he draws seem to have their own soul. I also liked that the posters in the exhibit were colorful.
By the way all last year i had a nice calender with his paintings. I think it was one of the best calenders i ever had.

Official annotation to exhibition by Nataļja Sujunšalijeva:

Subačs is already a household name in Latvia, but he entered the art world as part of the generation which appeared in the mid-1980s, during the Soviet era of perestroika. Artists were adventurous in criticising the collapsing USSR. Of legendary status are the exhibitions and projects of the group of artists known as LPSR-Z (with LPSR being the Latvian acronym for Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic, and the name of the group being an acronym of the first letters of the surnames of Normunds Lācis, Vilnis Putrāms, Māris Subačs, Artis Ruks, and Vilnis Zābers). Social activism, a refusal to conform, the first experiments with conceptualism – these were factors of the age and of Māris Subačs 20 years ago. Today, however, the role of artists and the positions which they take vis-?-vis their own era – these have changed. In place of the colourful and expressive linocuts which he produced in the mid-1980s, Subačs has developed a style of minimalism, with a clean line, a simplified and schematic drawing, and a text that is imbued with philosophy.
